Shandra Cain is a native of Petersburg, VA, and a lifelong Virginia resident. She’s an esteemed Alumna of the Virginia State University, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology Education and Educational Administration and Supervision, respectively. In 2016 Dr. Cain completed her doctoral work at Northcentral University and was awarded a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum & Instructional Leadership.  Dr. Cain prides herself on the ability to teach all students and instills in her Curriculum and Instruction Students that same skill.  Dr. Cain taught for 5 years in the school system before joining Virginia State University in 2007.  For over 10 years she was the instructor for the Introduction to Teaching courses at VSU where she taught future teachers how to be Competent, Caring, Effective, and Reflective Practitioners who create positive learning environments for all students. More recently she’s become one of the Executive director for the VSU C.E.N.T.E.R.S. Program.   In 2020 when the world had to pause due to the COVID-19,  Dr. Cain realized that students were not properly equipped for the transition to Virtual Learning, and worked tirelessly to create a program that could help students regardless of their location could get the help they need to succeed regardless of their environment. She has served on various committees to evolve STEM Education and her passion is to help students understand science and aspire to go into the  STEM fields in college.  Dr. Cain is a mother of 2 boys Niko and DJ and a host of other college babies she has taken under her wing.   Dr.  Cain is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., The Petersburg Chapter of The Links, Inc., and the world-renowned VSU Woo Woos.  Her motto for teaching is to “Inspire Hope, Ignite the Imagination, and Instill a Love of Learning” in all her students.
